Who I am

Dear Neighbor,

I have proudly served the citizens of Madeira Beach as Commissioner, District 1 for the past 4 years (2 terms). During that time I have always tried to respond to your priorities.

I came to Madeira Beach in 1978 and fell in love with our City. I was married in 1982 at the Church by the Sea and have been an active member since my arrival. My wife, Kathy’s family has been here since 1946, even before our City was incorporated. We purchased our current home on Boca Ciega Dr. in 1986.

Both my wife and I have been very involved in our community’s activities. We both serve as Youth Group Leaders for our Church. I participate in our Neighborhood Crime Watch Program, am a member of the Madeira Beach American Legion and support the VFW in Johns Pass. I proudly served in the Marine Corps from 1974 to 1976 and it has been my honor to support the planned “911 Memorial” in Causeway Park.

We are starting a new election cycle and another chapter in the history of Madeira Beach. As you are probably aware, there has been a great deal of turmoil in our City government since new members of the Commission were elected this past March. All department heads, except for the Marina Manager, have resigned, been fired or removed by eliminating position funding from the budget, creating a huge gap in required and capable personnel. I have taken a strong position in opposition to many proposals voted upon by the newly elected officials. Unfortunately, my single voice/vote could not stop the Commission majority from taking actions which I think have proven to be harmful to our City.

Looking Ahead

My priorities are to:

· Encourage members of the Commission to work together in a civil and dignified manner, especially when we disagree.

· Support the new City Manager in his effort to establish employee morale and job security.

· Continue my effort to keep our millage rate low.

· Initiate action to evaluate and develop the City’s Utilities Underground Delivery Systems.

· Support strong code enforcement and Neighborhood Watch groups and monitor progress by the Sheriff in reducing crime.

· Consider establishing a citizens committee to evaluate and determine how we can optimize our parks system.

I’m sure there are other issues you might wish to discuss. As a supporter of “Front Porch Politics”, I encourage you to call me.

at 224-5248 or e-mail me at tman3388@verizon.net .

I ask for your vote so I can continue to represent your views and pledge to you that I will work hard to insure that our City prospers.

My reason for writing this is because Madeira Beach will always be my home and I care for the City, very dearly! I have known the Begg's family for most of my 67 years. There were close family friends and role models for others and me for all they did for the community as evidence by their involvement in youth baseball, city commission, honest business practices, mentoring, etc. I met Terry when he came into the Beggs family. He brought the values of honesty, integrity, ethics, helping others, and many more values that were watched Madeira Beach politics over the years and, over the past 10 years or so, it has been mostly characterized by insider deals, nepotism, cronyism, special interest groups trying to control the city.

Every so often, an individual will enter the fray to make things ”right” again, to protect the citizens and the taxpayers, to act on common sense and ethics rather than political pressure by special interests and individuals, to put the City best interests above their own personal agenda and gain. Terry Lister is ONE of th0ise individuals and Terry is NEEDED to represent and protect the rights and privileges of not only his District but also the entire City of Madeira Beach. In my opinion, ALL taxpayers and citizens of Madeira Beach need to support him and others that have his civic-minded values. To do so will be a step in the right direction to bring Madeira Beach back to what it once was, a great place to grow up and to live with involved citizens and business owners looking after the well-being of all citizens, not just looking after a chosen few!

Vote to keep Terry in office. He’s a man of strong values and good character. He has the best interest of Madeira Beach and its citizens at heart and we believe he’ll continue to serve them faithfully. He’s a wonderful leader and I’m continuing to lift him the city up in prayer.

Your idea of underground the utilities along the beach while potentially extending the Pinellas Trail in the same area is brilliant. Good luck and you have my vote.
